Hildegarde was born in 0758 in Aachen, Rhineland, Prussia.  Hildegarde's father was Duke Gerold I of Swabia and her mother was Duchess Emma von Swabia of Vinzgau.  Her paternal grandfather is Bishop Gerold Erlaflaed I of Mayence; her maternal grandparents are Count Hnaba Nebi Allemania in the Linzgau and Hersuinde von Saxony. She had three brothers and a sister, named Gerold, Hadrian, Ulrich and Irmentrudis.  She was the third oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 25 on April 30th, 0783 in Thionville, Moselle, France.  She was buried in Abbaye De St Arnoul, Metz, Austrasia.

‌Hildegarde and Charlemagne were married in a religious ceremony about 0772 in Aachen, Rhineland, Prussia.  They had three sons and three daughters, named "the Younger", "the Pious", "the Hunchback", Rotrude, Bertha and Alpaid.
