Charles, known as "the Bald", was born on June 13th, 0823 in Frankfurt, Hessen-Nassau, Prussia.  "the Bald"'s father was Emperor Louis ("the Pious") I of Aquitaine and his mother was Princess Judith von Andechs-Bavaria.  His paternal grandparents were Emperor Charlemagne of the Holy Roman Empire and Hildegarde of Vinzgau; his maternal grandparents were Count Welf von Eritgau I of Andechs and Heilwig von Saxony. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Lothair, "the German", Le Germanique, Rotrud, Hildegard, Gisela and Adelheid.  He died at the age of 54 on October 6th, 0877 in Brides Les Bains, Bourgogne.  He was buried in St Denis, , France.


"the Bald"'s first family with Ermentrude d'Orleans

‌"the Bald" and Ermentrude were married in a religious ceremony on December 13th, 0842 in Crecy, , France.  They had a son and four daughters, named "the Stammerer", Rothilde, Judith, Hersent and Godehilde.

‌"the Bald" and Richeut were married in a religious ceremony on January 22nd, 0870 in Aix La Capelle, France.  They had a daughter named Rotilde.
