Godehilde was born in France.  Godehilde's father was Emperor Charles ("the Bald") II and her mother was Ermentrude d'Orleans.  Her paternal grandparents were Emperor Louis ("the Pious") I of Aquitaine and Princess Judith von Andechs-Bavaria; her maternal grandfather was Vodon of Orleans and her maternal grandmother is Engeltrude de Paris. She had a brother and three sisters, named "the Stammerer", Rothilde, Judith and Hersent. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named der Stammler and Rotilde.  She died before 0907.

‌Godehilde and Gozlin were married in a religious ceremony in 0889.  They had two sons and a daughter, named Godefroi, Aubert and du Maine.
