Raymond was born about 1065 in Dijon, France.  Raymond's father was Count William ("le Grand") I of Burgundy and his mother was Etienette de Longwy.  His paternal grandparents were Count Palatine Renaud de Lombardy I of Burgundy & Macon and Alice of Normandy; his maternal grandparents were Raymond ("Towhead") Berenger II (III) and Maud of Hauteville. He had a brother and four sisters, named "Tete-Hardi", Ermentrude, Gisele, Maud and Clemence.  He died on May 24th, 1107 in Grajal Do Campos, Leon.

‌Raymond and Uracca were married in a religious ceremony in 1087 in Toledo, Toledo, Spain.  They had two sons and a daughter, named Alfonso, "the Emperor", "Pierre-Raimund" and Sancha.
