Berengaria was born in Burgos, Castile, Läeon, Spain.  Berengaria's father was King Alfonso ("the Noble") VIII of Castile and her mother was Princess Eleanor Plantagenet.  Her paternal grandparents were King Sancho ("the Desired") III of Castile and Princess Blanche of Navarre; her maternal grandparents were King Henry Curtmantle FitzEmpress ("Plantagenet") Plantagenet II of England and Princess Eleanor of Aquitaine. She had two sisters named Urraca and Blanche.  She died on November 8th, 1246 in Las Huelgas.


Berengaria's family with King Alfonso Fernandez IX of Leon

‌Berengaria and Alfonso were married in a religious ceremony in December 1197 in Valladolid, Valladolid, Spain.  They had three sons and a daughter, named "the Saint", "the Saint", Alfonso and Berengaria.
