William was born about 1026 in Aquitaine, France.  William's father was Duke William Pierre ("the Great", "the Grand", "fier de bras") de Poitou III or V of Aquitaine and his mother was Agnes de Macon of Burgundy.  His paternal grandparents were Count William ("Ironarm", Fier-áa-bras) II or IV of Poitou and Emma of Blois; his maternal grandparents were King Othon-Guillaume de Macon and Ermentrude de Roucy of Lombardy. He had two brothers and two sisters, named William Pierre, Peter, Beatrix and Agnes.  He died on September 25th, 1086 in Chãateau De Chizay, Poitou, Aquitaine.


William's first family with Princess Hildegard of Burgundy

‌William and Hildegard were married in a religious ceremony in 1068 in France.  They had a son and a daughter, named "the Troubador" and Agnes.
