Agnes was born about 1020 in Aquitaine.  Agnes' father was Duke William Pierre ("the Great", "the Grand", "fier de bras") de Poitou III or V of Aquitaine and her mother was Agnes de Macon of Burgundy.  Her paternal grandparents were Count William ("Ironarm", Fier-áa-bras) II or IV of Poitou and Emma of Blois; her maternal grandparents were King Othon-Guillaume de Macon and Ermentrude de Roucy of Lombardy. She had three brothers and a sister, named William Pierre, William, Peter and Beatrix.  She died on December 14th, 1077.

‌Agnes and "the Black" were married in a religious ceremony on November 21st, 1043.  They had a son and two daughters, named Henry, Sophie and Maud.
