Robert was born in 0860 in Bourgogne, France.  Robert's father was Duke Robert ("the Strong", "Fortis", "le Fort") d'Anjou IV of Neustria and his mother was Princess Adelheid de Tours of the Holy Roman Empire.  His paternal grandfather was Count Rutpert de Wormsgau III and his paternal grandmother is Wialdruth d'Orleans; his maternal grandparents were Emperor Louis ("the Pious") I of Aquitaine and Empress Irmengard of Hesbain. He had two brothers and a sister, named Robert, Eudo and Regelinde. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named "the Justiciar", Conrad, Welf, Eve, Judith and Burgundy.  He died at the age of 63 on June 15th, 0923 in Soissons, France.

‌Robert and Beatrice were married in a religious ceremony in 0890.  They had two sons and two daughters, named "the Great", Amaury, Adela and Liegarde.
