In 1881, James (33) was still unmarried and living with his brother Abraham. 

24 Dec 1892 James Mather married Jane Haslam, but had no children.

Eli married Jane Kay 11-Nov-1860.

In 1861, Eli (23) and Jane (25) were at Mason Street, Western Bolton.  Eli (born Entwistle) was a Carter.

By 1871, Eli had become a Porter, living at 8 Suffolk Place in the Regent Road district of Salford.  They had Martha (9) and John (6).

In 1881, Eli and Jane (42 & 45) were at 11 West Bank Street, Salford with Martha A (19) and John J (16).

In 1885, Eli deserted his wife and son John, or maybe he was thrown out of the house by John.  The case appeared in court the following year (see image of newclip extract).
1837 - 1921 Amos Mather 84 84 Aged 4 at Old Barn, Entwistle in 1841 with parents James and Martha

Amos, married Ann Briggs, but was a widower in 1911, with an adopted daughter Agnes Lomax and a servant.  He was clearly a very sucessful man, leaving an estate of £17,341 in 1921 - quite a sum in those days! (so perhaps he inherited his fathers farm).

Amos was a bookkeeper at the Bleach Works, living in Little Bolton in 1871 and 1881.

In 1878, Amos of Astly Street, Bolton was one of the executors of his fathers Will.

In 1884, there was an Amos, son of William and Sarah Ann Briggs who died an infant.

In 1891, Amos Mather, born Turton, Manager Bleaching, was married to Ann (both 53) at 343 Blackburn Road.  They had a servant but no children.

By 1901 Amos was the works manager.

In 1921, Amos died at Bispham near Blackpool, so probably in a returement or nursing home on the coast.

In 1856-58, Jonathan and Jane had William and Jane, but after wife Jane died in 1858, aged only 22 Jonathan was alone.  In 1861, Jonathan (27, Wid) was a lodger at 326 Bolton Road, Over Darwen.

In 1865 Jonathan married Mary Leaver and in 1871 Jonathan and Mary (37 & 32) were at 192 Bolton Road, Over Darwen with John (4) and Mary Alice (2).

In 1881, Jonathan and Mary (47 & 42) were at 199 Duckworth Street, Over Darwen with John (14), Amos (7), and James (5).

Jonathan died in 1889.  In 1891, Widow Mary (49) was with her sons John (24), Amos (17) and James (15)

In 1871, Jno & Mgrt (38 & 39) were still in East Bolton with Martha (16) James (12) and Margaret A (1).  Peggy's brother Briggs Holden (30 was visiting.
1806 - 1874 Martha Kay 68 68 Martha was born 1810, daughter of James and Ann Kay.

Martha was aged ~25, and 6 months gone (with John) when she married James in 1832.

Martha was 30 and at the Old Barn, Entwistle in 1841 with husband James (36, a silk wever) and William Kay (48, Ag Lab), probably her brother.

In 1878, William Entwistle of Green Alders, Edgworth was one of the executors of his father-in-law, James Mather's Will.
1845 William Briggs In 1878, William Briggs of Lower House Farm was one of the executors of his father-in-law, James Mather's Will. 1847 Jane Haslam Jane's father was Samuel and mother Martha.

Jane and James were both 45 and single when they married.
1838 Mary Mather In 1841, there are no Ann and Mary Mather twins on the census, and no deaths for either registered in Bolton.

Mary Mather, aged 2 in 1841, of Pelton Fold, daughter of Richard Mather and Mary (nee Rostron) is another.
1875 William Mather 1838 - 1908 Ann Briggs 70 70 Ann Briggs was the daughter of John Briggs, a farmer in Entwistle.  Ann married Amos Mather, the son James, another Entwistle farmer.

Ann was 3 in 1841, living at Lower House, Entwistle.

Amos and Ann (both 33 born Entwistle in 1871) without children. They still had no children in 1881 (aged 43).

Ann died at 343 Blackburn Road, Turton, in 1908, aged 70

There were three daughters, Dorothy (b.19-Jun-1921) and Joyce m (b.6-Feb-1927) and Bessy (b.23-Dec-1930).

1836 - 1858 Jane Entwistle 22 22 Jane's father was Aaron Entwistle, a Beer Seller  Known as ENTWISTLE on the marriage record, but the childrens births show MMN as ENTWISLE.

Jane was a minor when she married Jonathan of full age, a quarryman in 1856.  She may have been pregnant and too young to bear a child.  By 1861 Jonathan was a widower.

Jonathan died in 1889.  In 1891, Widow Mary (49) was with her sons John (24), Amos (17) and James (15)
1861 - 1930 Martha Alice Mather 69 69 Martha Alice Mather bap 2/6/1861, Flixton, married Adam Taylor on 25/11/1882, Wesleyan Chapel, Stretford.

Martha A Taylor of Stretford died 1930, aged 67.
1864 - 1920 John James Mather 55 55 In 1881, John J Mather (16) was a Book Binder, living with his parents Eli and Jane at 11 West Bank Street, Salford.

John's father Eli died in early 1891.  In April 1891, John J Mather (26) was still a Book Binder, head, with his recently widowed mother (55) living at 11 West Bank Street, Salford.  He married  Elily E White at St Bartholomew, Salford about June that year.

In 1901, John and Emily (36 & 34) had two sons Irving and Leslie (8 and 2).

John James Mather of 61 Ashbourne grove, Liecester Road, Higher Broughton, Salford died 7 May 1920 at the County Asylum, Whittingham.

In 1851, James Mason (17) was with his parents Joseph and Elizabeth Mason at 95 Blackburn Street, Little Bolton.

10 Aug 1856, James Mason, a mangler of Sharples, son of Joseph Mason a labourer married Elizabeth Entwistle, daughter of John Entwistle, a weaver at St Peter's, Bolton. 

In Q4 1856, a few months after they married James and Elizabeth had a daughter Mary Jane.  Both mother and daughter died.

20 Nov 1858 James Mason, a mangler of Sharples, son of Joseph Mason a labourer married Ann Mather, daughter of James Mather, a farmer at St George's, Little Bolton. 
1838 - 1910 Ann Mather 71 71 Ann and sister Mary were twins, dughteers of James Mather a farmer. 

In 1841, there are no Ann and Mary Mather twins on the census, and no deaths for either registered in Bolton.

Ann Mather fits the profile of the Turton Mather family with connections to Sharples, Turton Bottoms, Astley Bridge and Walmsley.  However there are no DNA matches to the 4 tree owners (Oct-2020) and Ann was born Bolton (i.e. not Shaples or Turton). 

20 Nov 1858, Ann, daughter of James Mather, a farmer, married James Mason, a widower, at St George's Little Bolton (this cannot be Mary Ann Mather, aged 14 in 1851)

8 Mar 1910, Ann Mason died at Bottom, Sharples.
1859 - 1946 Elizabeth Ann Mason 86 86 Elizabeth Ann married David Johnson.

Elizabeth died 31 Jan 1946, aged 87 and is buried with her parents.

1808 - 1878 James Mather 70 70 Assumed to be Son or Rachel, based in 1851 census both are at "New House".  James is a farmer, and his mother Rachel a Logding House Keeper.  As the oldest son, he got the farm.

In 1831, James (or his father) was witness at John's marriage to Jane Entwistle

Brother John & Jane Mather had Charles (b.1832), John (b.1834) and Ralph (b.1835) at Edgworth independant while at New House, Entwistle in 1841.

In 1841, lived at Old Barn, Entwistle (a Silk weaver)

In 1851, James and Martha (42 & 45) were at New houses, Turton, neighbouring his mother Martha (63, Wid, a lodging house keeper).  With him were 6 children.

28 June 1878, James died at Newhouse Farm (see probate).

30 Nov 1878, a notice was published in the Bolton Evening News for claims against the estate of James Mather, farmer of Entwistle wo write to Mather of 10 Astley Street, Bolton.
