Betty was born in 1795 in Bolton and her baptism took place on October 18th, 1795 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Betty's father was Rev James Mather and her mother was Ann Speakman. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Robert, Mary, Sarah, Jane and Hannah.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
