William's father was Roland Mather and his mother was Ann Allison.  His paternal grandparents were William Mather and Ann Booth. He had three sisters named Mary, Eliza and Mary.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 73 on June 15th, 1839 in Edensor.  He was buried in June 1839 in Edensor.²
