Ann and George Dunn married in Bolton in 1833 and may have emigrated to the USA in 1838 Not George and Ann from Manchester. They had a son in 1828 Not the George Dunn, minister, and Ann Banks from (and married in) Yorkshire No obvious family in Bolton in 1841. Another BOOTH+MATHER family with overlapping births registered in Little Bolton Margaret and Frederick, both born 1847 must be two different BOOTH+MATHER families. Johnathan was Millwright Pattern Maker.  This is a highly skilled job, so well paid and prosperous.

In 1841, Jonathan, millwright, and Eliza (30 & 25) were living in Water St, Little Bolton with daughters Margaret, Ann and Mary (4,3,1).

In 1851, Jonathan and Eliza (40 & 37) are still at 25 Water Street with Margatet (14), Ann (12), Mary (10), Jonathan (8), Eliza (6) and Frederick (4).

Family living at 17 Mill Hill St, Litle Bolton in 1861
Family living at 4 John St, Halliwell in 1871
Living at 167 Kay St with daughter Elizabeth in 1881

In 1901, Jonathan was a "Retired Pattern Maker".
1837 Margaret Elizabeth Booth Christened and named Margaret 16 April 1841 when a baby, but took second name Elizabeth as she grew up. 1838 Anne Booth 1840 Mary Booth 1842 Jonathan Booth A Millwright, like his father.

After Jonathan maried Jane, then had son William and then moved to Hull Yorkshire in 1869.  They had a total of 6 children.
1845 Eliza Hakan Booth Eliza was NOT Elizabeth.  Eliza's older sister Margaret Elizabeth went by the name Elizabeth. 1847 Frederick Booth Frederick was visiting John Mather of Middleton in 1861.  Was this an Uncle?

He appears twice on the 1861 census.  He's recorded as living at home with his family, but also as a visitor of John and Ann Mather at Manchester Street, Heywood, (near Manchester).  There is only one Frederick Booth born in Bolton about 1847, so it must be him!

Living with wife Elizabeth in 1881 at 39 Irving St, Little Bolton, Lancashire.

Frederick may have emigrated to America (New Hampshire) abouyt 1886, and then moved on to Vancouver, BC by 1911.
1855 Sarah Jane Booth 1839 - 1881 William Thornley 42 42 1870 William Henry Thornley 1876 Annie E Thornley 1833 - 1895 Catherine Pilling 62 62 1852 Samuel Haslam Caper Maker in 1891, living in Hunslet, Yorkshire.

A Beater m?n  Paper Maker (worker) in 1901
Ellidge Addison Swinglehurst 1847 Elizabeth Fell 1879 Annie Booth 1846 Jane Clough 1869 William Booth 1870 Robert Booth 1811 - 1852 Ann Mather 40 40 Ann was baptised at Ainsworth.

Ann married James Booth 16-Mar-1832.  The births of Luke and Betty show MMN as Mather, so this marriage appears correct.

NOTE: This may be another Ann Mather (e.g. Ann b.1804, daughter of Charles and Alice). George Dunn also married an Ann Mather on 11-Apr-1833. There are no Records for an Ann and George Dunn in Bolton.  There is also a well defined and unrelated Jonathan Booth and Eliza Mather family from Little Bolton.

Ann Booth was a Widow, 30 in 1841, 40 (or 46) in 1851, 50 in 1861 with daughter Jane Booth (8,18,28) living in East Bolton, so this could be her.  Ann Booth (mothers Maiden Name Mather) was born in 1838 in East Bolton, but there is no death before 1842.

1813 - 1880 Eliza Mather 67 67 Possible daughter of Samuel and Alice (unconfirmed).  If  baptish 22 AUG 1813 at Holcombe, Lancashire is correct, then parents are Bowle (i.e Bold or Bould) and Margaret Mather   1822 - 1859 Betty Mather 37 37 Betty was illegitimate (as shown on her marriage).

In 1841, Betty Mather (15) was with James and Ann Booth (both 25) at the Volunteer Inn, Turton (near Toppings).  Betty's assumed twin or close sister (15, F.S.) Catherine was a neighbour at Lower House.

29 Dec 1844, Betty Mather of Sharples, spinster and illegitimate married William Greenhalgh, a widower, at St Peter's, Bolton.  William Greenhalgh and James Liptrot were witness.

It is likely Ann Booth is Ann Mather, her older sister
1819 - 1876 Isaac Greenhalgh 57 57 Isaac, son of Isaac, was a widower (so probably older) when he married Betty Mather

29 Dec 1844, Isaac Greenhalgh, a spinner and widower, son of Isaac married Betty Mather.

In 1851, Isaac and Betty (31 & 28) were at Berry Row, Turton with Abraham, Isaac, and Ann (5, 3 & 1) and two lodgers.

In 1853, the family moved to Tonge where three more children were born and Betty died in 1859.

In 1861, Isaac (42, Wid) had three children: Isaac, Ann and James (13, 12 & 10) at Keston Fold, L.B.

In 1871, Isaac (51) and sons Isaac (23) and James (19) were at the Cranford Arms, 19 Bolton Street, in L.B. with Margaret Birtwistle and family boarding.
1845 - 1852 Abraham Greenhalgh 7 7 1847 - 1912 Isaac Greenhalgh 65 65 In 1871, Isaac (23) was with his father.

In 1872, Isaac, son of Isaac, married Nancy Hesketh.  He was living at 19 Bolton Street and Nancy at 40 Lum Street.

In 1881, Isaac (a Green Grocer in LB) and Nancy (34 & 37) have Fred, James and Louisa (8, 7 & 5)
1849 Ann Greenhalgh Ann was put out for adoption.

In 1871, Ann Greenhalgh (21) was with her adopted perents, John and Sarah Windley
1852 - 1930 James Greenhalgh 78 78 1854 - 1855 Jane Greenhalgh 5m 5m 1856 - 1857 William Greenhalgh 1 1 1859 - 1859 Betty Greenhalgh 1847 Alice Booth In 1884, when Alice married Isaac Greenhalgh both were 37, and Alice was from Breightmet, dau of Thomas Booth (dec, shop keeper) 1849 - 1883 Nancy Hesketh 34 34 1835 - 1856 Esther Booth 21 21 Esther and Luke I births were registered in Turton. Later births were in Little Bolton. Esther was baptised twice, Presbyterian and later CoE.

No matching death for Esther Booth, so she probably too young to marry Thomas Harrison in 1851, Bolton St Peter, so possibly  Richard Smethurst (1860, Bolton RO).

In 1861, the Esther that married Richard Smethurst (a Coal Miner at Farnworth) was born at Pilkington about 1833, so this is probably not her.
1837 - 1840 Luke Booth 3 3 There were two Luke Booths baptised.  This Luke baptised in 1837 died aged 3.  The other was son of Mary Booth of Tong, a spinster, baptised 8 Nov 1835. 1840 - 1864 Betty Booth 24 24 In 1862, Betty Booth married Thomas Kelly (Bolton RO).

In 1863, Thomas and Betty had a son James, who died.

Betty died in 1864, aged 24.
1844 - 1872 Luke Booth 27 27 Luke was a house painter (as was his father).

In 1866, Luke married Jane Robinson from Warrington.  The following year they had a son James.

In 1872, Luke died at Daubhill, Rumworth, aged 28.
1847 - 1903 Margaret Booth 55 55 Margaret married Levi Lomax 1851 - 1858 Mary Jane Booth 7 7 1852 - 1858 William Booth 5 5 William's birth weas registered Q2 1852.

There were two William Booth births registered in Little Bolton in 1852.  Mothers were HIGHTON and MATHER.  There were also two baptisms, but niether for this William.

William's mother Ann died Aug 1852 when William was born.
1812 - 1867 James Booth 54 54 James was from Harwood Lee and wife Ann from Sharples.

1835-40, James and Ann had Esther baptised at Toppings Turton, and their next two children (Luke and Betty) also registered at Turton.

In 1841, James Booth, a painter, and Ann (both 25) were at the Volunteer, Turton (managed by William Baron, publican and Ann).  With them was Betty Mather (15, Ann's half-sister) and daughters Esther (5) and Betty (1).  Thier son Luke had died in 1840, aged 3.

In 1851, James and Ann Booth (both 38) were at 73 Bridge Street, Little Bolton with Esther (15), Betty 10), Luke (6), Margaret (3), and Mary Jane (3mo).

Ann died in 1851 and James Booth married Mary Lomax.

In 1861, James Booth (47, born Harwood) was a painter employing 2 boys and 10 men, living at 196 Kay Street, Little Bolton.  He was now married to Mary (41, b. Turton) and had Luke (16), Margaret (14) and Thomas Holt (step-son, 15).

James died in 1867
1795 - 1857 Luke Booth 62 62 Being in the building trade, Luke was probably an important and well known person, born Harwood Lee.  He would have known the Mather family there.

Luke's first wife Esther died in 1819, and Luke remarried Jane Crompton in 1821 and had John and Jane by her.

In 1841, Luke (a plasterer) and Jane (40 & 50) weere at Barn Square, Little Bolton with John and Jane (both 15)

In 1851, Luke (born Harwood Lee) and Jane (51 & 60) were at 1 Slater Street, Little Bolton with 5 lodgers.

Luke died by accident, falling from a ladder at his warehouse.
1795 - 1819 Esther Hamer 24 24 1815 Jane Booth Jane, daughter of Luke and Esther of Breightmet.  There was another Jane, baptised this year, daughter of James and Ann of Harwood. ~1823 - 1861 Mary Lomax 38 38 Mary was the daughter of John Lomax, a collier.

Mary had a son Thomas Holt, a painter, aged 16 born Bolton  and with the family in 1861.
Thomas Kelly KELLY or KELLEY (when son James birth was registered). 1863 - 1864 James Kelly 1 1 1846 Jane Robinson Jane was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Robinson.  The family moved to Little Bolton before Jane was 5 years old.

Luke died in 1872, and in 1876 Jane re-married (possibly William Entwistle)
1867 James Booth Born 1866 (another James Booth was born Q4/1870, son of John Booth and Mary Robinson).

In 1871, James (4) was with his parents Luike and Jane in Bolton.  James's father Luke died in 1872.

1897, daughter Mary Ann Booth was the first of the family to marry and leave home.

In 1901, Levi and Margaret (56 & 53) were at 12 Parkinson Street, Little Bolton with James (30), George (28), Jane (24), William (21), Samuel (19), Albert (16) and Ernest (14).
1869 James Lomax 1871 - 1871 George Lomax 1874 Mary Ann Lomax 1877 - 1940 Jane Lomax 63 63 In 1911, Jane was at 142 Blackburn Road, Walmsley 1879 William Lomax 1882 Samuel Lomax 9 Jun 1906, Samuel (24), Fitter, Bachelor, 41 Lyon Street married Betsy Wood (22) 1884 Albert Lomax There were two Albert Lomax births registered at Bolton 6 months appart with MMN = BOOTH.

In 1911, Albert was living with his sister and Morris family.

In 1911, Beatrice was still single and living in Halliwell.  It appers she went to Ontario, Canada to marry Ernest Lomax in 1912.
1908 Emily Morris 1914 Phyllis Morris 1920 - 1980 Eric Morris 60 60 1897 - 1897 George Morris 1899 Albert Morris 1901 Lillie Morris 1903 Margaret Annie Morris 1906 George Morris 1905 - 1993 Tom S Pevitt 88 88 Barbara died in 1939 and in 1941, Tom married Rose M Skille.
Barbara Pevitt 1925 - 2017 Rowland R Hart 92 92 Jean Wilshaw Ann Pevitt Jane Pevitt 1907 Hilda Lomax <1813 - 1868 George C Dunn 55 55 In 1833, George married Ann Mather at Bol;ton.

In 1835, George (a mariner) and Ann may have had a daughter Jane, born in Liverpool.  This appears to fit with the 1880 US census, and is also the only child born in Liverpool.

In 1838, George C Dunn emigrated from Bolton to Philadelphia.
Anne Mather Maybe born 1796 and nurse, widow in 1861 aged 66.  If so, Anne had a daughter Ellen (b.1827) who married William Baxendale in 1853 (civil marriage). A private connected tree owner TimWinstanley has a DNA match with Julie Young.

Also Cory Mather has 46 cM DNA connections to Rosa Baxendale (but no tree).
1835 Jane Dunn Jane is shown as Jane Rothwell in 1880 ~1865 Emma Bauman 1863 - 1951 George R Dunn 87 87 In 1880 (Philadelphia, US), George born Phila and wife Emma (both 57), born Germany had a son Frank aged 29 (who reported his father's death in 1951). 1804 Alice Martin 1838 Elizabeth Dunn 1849 - 1852 Mary Dean 2 2 Mary DEAN of a mother MATHER !

DEAN was possibly a typo for DUNN as there seems to be no Dean and Mather marriage in Bolton, and no other birth.  However, Mary died aged 4, buried at Salford and name is confirmed as DEAN.

There are two possible Mary Dean's, both in Salford:
a) Mary (2) and Charles (5), children of Mary Dean (34, Widow, born Yorkshire) living at 22 Ford Street.
b) Mary (2) dughter of who had a sister Alice Dean (aged 9 mo, born Woodchurch, Wirral, Mothers Maiden Name TABBERNER).
3) This is not the Mary from Accrington, as she was a twin of Cornelius Dean.

In 1861, Mary Chatterton (43, born Gisburn, Yorkshire) was House Keeper at 73 Silk St, Salford with son Charles H Dean (15, born Seacomb) and several others. Mary Dean (38) had married Thomas Chatterton, a fishmonger, in 1855.  She was the daughter of William Dean a farmer

This older Mary Dean does appear to be the mother of Mary Dean that died, aged 4.  It is likely therefopr the father was a MATHER as mother Mary is clearly a spinster.  Son Charles Henry Dean (born Wallasey, Wirral , 1846, no MMN) must also be illegitimate.
1856 Esther Booth This is Esther, daughter of Thomas Booth and Susanna Walch, born 1856 at Tong.

13 Dec 1879, Esther Booth of Harwood, daughter of Thomas Booth a Dyer married James Taylor 26, forgeman and bachelor of Ainsworth Houses, Tong.
1851 James Taylor ~1818 Roger Holt 1891 Mary Jane Doak 1791 Jane Crompton 1823 John Booth 1827 Jane Booth 1817 - 1904 Luke Booth 87 87 Luke was illegitimate, son of Mary Booth, spinster of Tong.  He was probably the nephew of Luke Booth born 1804, a painter from Tong.

18 June 1856, Luke Booth, Widower, son of Luke married Mary Pollitt, widow,  daughter of Joseph Baron, a shoe maker at Boilton St Peter.

In 1881, Luke Booth (62) born Lancashire and Pheobe Ann Booth (58) and son Milton Booth (28) were at Sheridan, Yamhill, Oregon, USA.  This may be another person - TBC
1868 - 1870 Elizabeth Lomax 2 2 1804 Luke Booth Luke, Son of John Booth & Mary of Little Bolton, part of the Painter and Plaster family. ~1805 Mary Clifford 1825 James Booth 1827 John Booth 1831 - 1832 Joseph Booth 1 1 1833 Thomas Booth 1836 - 1836 Richard Booth 1837 Elizabeth Booth 1840 Sarah Jane Booth 1843 Richard Booth
