Joseph was descrived as "a bit of a drifter" and did various jobs. He trained as a clogger. Was a crane operator at a large mill, and after WW1 a stoker on a ship, which came to the USA but he couldnt get off because of his hanycap.
Married Lucy (tbc), also deaf & dumb, sometime after 1900. They had no children.
