William never married. Reportedly, he lived with his brother George and his wife Agnes until George died in 1956, and then lived with niece Eliza Brooks Caron until his death.
In 1901, James (26, Head) was at 9 Delemere Street, Halliwell with brothers John (24), Charles (22), George (20), William (17) and Robert S Brooks (15).

Obituary: William Brooks of 1259 Somerset Ave., Dighton, died Tuesday in Morton Hospital after a short illness. He was 81. Born in Bolton, England, son of the late Charles and Ann (Price) Brooks, he was educated in schools in England, and had lived in Dighton for the past 55 years. A retired textile worker, he was last employed by the Harodite Finishing Co. for 14 years. He had also previously worked in the Lincoln Paper Mill. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, North Dighton.
