  • Born Ellen Hardy in 1876 (the only Bolton birth with this name), the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Hardy and named Ellen Hardy, aged 4 in 1881.  Although illegitimate, she was baptised the daughter of James and Elizabeth Hardy, so unlikely to be the daughter of George.
    
    In 1891, was aged 14 and named Ellen Brooks, living with George & Elizabeth.
    
    In 1901, Ellen Brooks, 24 was a cotton tenter, still with her parents George and Elizabeth at 30 Howard Strreet, Little Bolton.
