Alice was born in March 1851 in Little Bolton and her christening took place on June 1st, 1851 at St. Peter's (Bolton) conducted by Curate T Loxham.1 2  Alice's father was James Brooks and her mother was Alice Mather.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Brooks and Ann or Alice; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Alice Mather. She had six brothers and a sister, named George, Charles, James, Thomas, Robert, Samuel and Happy.  She was the third oldest of the eight children. She had a half-brother named John.  She died at the age of 41 in December 1892 in Little Bolton.3
