There is another Issac Mather from England recorded in 1880 US census, living at Warick, Kent, Rhode Island, Working at Print Works, Aged 69 (b.1811).

Living in Little Bolton in 1861.

In 1871, Samuel (29, Head) and William (19) were spinners living at 51 Halliwell Road (with Martha Murry, aged 60, a housekeeper).

31 Dec 1876, William Mather (24) a spinner of 62 Charles Rupert Street, son of Isaac Mather a weaver married Mary Greenhalgh (25), daughter of Thomas Greenhalgh, a collier at Bolton St Peter.

In 1911, William and Mary (59 & 60) were at 250 Waterloo Street, Bolton with Rebecca (33), Mary Jane (32) and Wilfred (25).

In 1915, William was a retired "Operative Cotton Spinner" when son Wilfred married Mary Alice Hardman.

In 1920, living at 28 Howard Street, Bolton when his son Private J G Mather was reported Killed in France during WW1.
1837 - 1894 Eliza Mather 56 56 Eliza Mather was born and lived her whole life in the Waterloo area of Little Bolton, Lancashire.

Recorded as only child of Isaac and Mary on 1841 census return, living with parents at Kay Street, Little Bolton.  Note she is "Eliza" (i.e. NOT Elizabeth, the daughter of Isaac Mather, a farmer from Entwistle who married James Duckworth 2-Sep-1860)

In 1851, Eliza is living at 1 Simpson Street, Little Bolton, Lancashire.

In 1861, Eliza had already left home, but not with James Pendlebury (who was still married then). In 1861 she was aged 22, boarding with John and Ellen Bell in Egerton, Turton.

14 Aug 1863, Eliza Mather (Full), spinster of Little Bolton, daughter of Isaac Mather a weaver married James Pendlebury (Full), shopkeeper and widower of Little Bolton, son of William Pendlebury, a twister. Witnesses were Thomas Pearson; Margaret Ridyard.

In 1891, John and Israel were still with their mother, Eliza.

4 May 1872, Samuel Mather, Spinner, son of Isaac Mather a weaver married Sarah Booth, a widow, daughter of Thomas Birchall, a forgeman at St George's, Little Bolton.

The 1877 the marriage of Samuel Mather to Selina J Cooper may be another (a wealthy family with large monument for Selina in Southport), although this is probably another from Manchester. However, Samuel does appear to have left Sarah.

In 1881, Samuel Mather was married (38), lodger with Pennington family at Westhoughton and still in Westhoughton in 1891, near brother and family.

In 1881, after Martha's second husband James France had died, Samuel Mather (38, mar) was lodging with Martha Pennington.  He is probably the father of Mary Ellen Pennington (as her death record records her father as Samuel Pennington). Mary Ellen recorded her MMN as Pennington on the first three UK births of her children, but Mather for Cecil, also hinting as Samuel being her father.

Samuel was recorded as Married in 1881, but single again in 1891, so did he marry?  Well YES, as in 1901 he's recorded as a widower, so 1891 is probably an error.

In 1883, Samuel Mather Patterson married Catherine Sharp at Bolton Holy Trinity. This is another person, the widowed son of John Patterson.

In 1891 Isaac’s daughter Eliza Pendlebury (52, Wid) had moved into 4 Simpson Street. With her were two sons John and Israel (24 & 21) and her brother Samuel Mather (47, Single) was visiting.

However, there is no common ancestor to explain the match. 1852 Selina Jane Cooper Selina Cooper, dau of Mary and Frederick, baptised in Manchester.

In 1871, Selina Cooper, 18, sister-in-law, was a piecer at the cotton mill, Manchester New Cross.  Her sister was Sarah Cooper married to John Hunt (both 23).  This may be the same person!  There isnt a Manchester birth record. That Selina (aged 23) may have married Andreas Pendergast in 1874 at Manchester.

There are no previous marriages of a John Mather and Ann (or Anne) of Deane in the past 20 years, the nearest being Ann Eckersley, married 1775.  Boton marriages are also limited.  There is however an Ann Johnson married at Manchester in 1792 but she was still having children in 1805.

John and Ann Eckersley are of Astley.  After John and Elizabeth were married, then had a Martha baptised at Atherton (but 16 years later).
