Samuel was born on March 26th, 1855 at Lever Street and his baptism took place on September 29th, 1861 in Bolton.1 2  Samuel's father was Phineas Shuttleworth and his mother was Happy Mather.  His paternal grandparents were William Wetherall and Ellen Shuttleworth; his maternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Alice Mather. He had a brother named Thomas.  He was the older of the two children. He had a half-sister named Maria.  He died at the age of 62 on February 23rd, 1918 in Bolton.  He was buried on February 27th, 1918 in Astley Bridge.3 1

‌Samuel and Lois were married in a religious ceremony on October 2nd, 1875 at St. Paul's (Astley Bridge) by Alfred F.S. Studdy and witnessed by John Vickers; Eliza Bailey.11  They had four sons and six daughters, named Phineas, Miles, Samuel, Albert, Happy, Lois, Annie, Jessie, Mary and Alice.  There are no more children.
