Betty was born in 1825 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on August 28th, 1825 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Betty's father was George Barrow and her mother was Nancy Greenhalgh. She had five brothers and eight sisters, named John, Richard, James, George, Thomas, Margaret, Eliza, Mary, Nancy, Nancy, Celine, Harriet and Ellen.  She was the third oldest of the fourteen children. She had a half-brother named Edwin.
