James was born in 1831 in Bolton.1   James' father was George Barrow and his mother was Nancy Greenhalgh. He had four brothers and nine sisters, named John, Richard, George, Thomas, Margaret, Betty, Eliza, Mary, Nancy, Nancy, Celine, Harriet and Ellen.  He was the seventh oldest of the fourteen children. He had a half-brother named Edwin.  He died at the age of 73 on November 9th, 1904 in Pennsylvania (PA).2
