Margaret was born in 1823 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on October 12th, 1823 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Margaret's father was George Barrow and her mother was Nancy Greenhalgh. She had five brothers and eight sisters, named John, Richard, James, George, Thomas, Betty, Eliza, Mary, Nancy, Nancy, Celine, Harriet and Ellen.  She was the second oldest of the fourteen children. She had a half-brother named Edwin.
