Nancy was born in 1834 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on January 12th, 1834 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Nancy's father was George Barrow and her mother was Nancy Greenhalgh. She had five brothers and eight sisters, named John, Richard, James, George, Thomas, Margaret, Betty, Eliza, Mary, Nancy, Celine, Harriet and Ellen.  She was the nineth oldest of the fourteen children. She had a half-brother named Edwin.
