Harriet was born in 1845 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on March 23rd, 1845 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Harriet's father was George Barrow and her mother was Nancy Greenhalgh. She had five brothers and eight sisters, named John, Richard, James, George, Thomas, Margaret, Betty, Eliza, Mary, Nancy, Nancy, Celine and Ellen.  She was the thirteenth oldest of the fourteen children. She had a half-brother named Edwin.
