John was born in 1869 in St. Helens.1  John's father was James Barrow and his mother was Hannah (Annie) Roydes.  His paternal grandparents were George Barrow and Nancy Greenhalgh. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Levi, James, George, Elizabeth and Sarah.  He was the third youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 77 on September 11th, 1946 in Ayrshire.2
