George was born in 1876 in St. Helens.1   George's father was James Barrow and his mother was Hannah (Annie) Roydes.  His paternal grandparents were George Barrow and Nancy Greenhalgh. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Levi, James, John, Elizabeth and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the six children.
