Elijah was born on March 19th, 1853 in Astley Bridge.1  Elijah's father was William Pollitt and his mother was Esther Holt.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Pollitt and Mary Davenport; his maternal grandparents were James Holt and Fanny Hamer. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Miles, Albert, Mary, Lois and Emily.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 58 on August 31st, 1911 in Bolton.2
