Emily was born in September 1861 in Astley Bridge.1  Emily's father was William Pollitt and her mother was Esther Holt.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Pollitt and Mary Davenport; her maternal grandparents were James Holt and Fanny Hamer. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Miles, Elijah, Albert, Mary and Lois.  She was the second youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 59 on November 1st, 1920 in Bolton.2
