In 1841, William (15) was with William and Ann at School Brow, Billinge CHapel ENd.
1808 - 1810 Benjamin Mather 2 2 Benjamin was William Mather's first (but should be third) son.  However, mother is shown as Betty Holme, so perhaps this is another family. 1776 - 1848 William Mather 72 72 William Mather of Wallgate, Wigan.  A spinner.

Soon after they married in 1841, Ann Mather (35) was with William Mather (65) at School Brow, Billinge Chapel End (part of Wigan).  William appears to have had a son William (15) from an earlier marriage.

William may have had a brother Peter (60) who was a neighbor also at School Brow in 1841. There were also several other Mathers households here including Tabatha (7), and another Ann Mather (70) with a daughter Ann (35), so quiite a Mather commune.
1808 - 1876 Ann Mather 68 68 14 Mar 1841 Ann Mather married William Mather.  This appears to have been her uncle (i.e. her father's younger brother),

12 Jan 1858, Ann Mather (46, Widow), from Billinge, daughter of Joshua Mather deceased married William Peach (28), a labourer from Liverpool at Billinge, St Aidan.

In 1861, William and Ann Peach (31 & 53) were at 1 School Brow, Chapel End, Billinge with with Margaret (17), William (15), Sarah (13) and Tabatha (27)

In 1871, William and Ann Peach (48 & 63) were at 1 School Brow, Chapel End, Billinge with with Margaret Neville (27), William (25), Sarah (23) and Margaret's daughter Ann Neville (6).

William's (much older) wife Ann died in 1876.  Three months after she had died, William married his step-daughter Margaret in Liverpool.

In 1841, Joshua and Peggy (70 & 55) were farming at Firtree House, Billinge Chapel End with James (25), Sarah (25), Margaret (20), Mary (20), Ellen (20), Joshua (15) and Peter (10). Josiah was a farmer and shopkeeper.

1782 - 1856 Margaret (Peggy) Mather 74 74 Joshua Mather & Margaret Mather, both of Billinge were married by Banns the 23 August 1805 by John Gibson 1778 - 1819 Betty Cowley 41 41 William was widowed when he married a much younger Ann Mather in 1841. We know their ages from the 1841 census.

Who was he married to earlier?  William Married Betty Cowley, both of Upholland in 1804.  This is close to Billinge so is likely to be him.  Their witness was John Mather.  The death confirms her age and marrage of William from Orrell.  However, Betty is the daughter of George and Betty Holme (see Benjamin's baptism).
1823 William Mather In 1841, William was living with newley married William and Ann Mather at Billinge.  This was Ann's younger brother, not a son from William's first marriage.

In 1841, Tabatha (7) is a neighbour of William and Ann with no obvious parents.  However, she is baptised, daughter of Richard and Mary, although lived or was visiting William and Ann on several census returns.

In 1851, Tabitha (18) is visiting Ann Mather., so perhaps William and Ann cared or "Adopted" her.

In 1861, James a stone mason and Betty (50 & 52) are living at St Helen with son Thomas (27)

In 1881, James Mather (69), formerly a farmer, was with his brother John Mather (80) at Billinge Chapel End. They were living with his niece Mary A Laithwaite (36) and family at Longfold, Chapel End.

11 Dec 1885, James Mather, Yeoman, died (aged 74) and brother William Mather farmer of Upholland was an executor (together with Peter Neville, Farmer of Chapel End).

1757-59, William and Peter were born in Wistanley.  After them, all the other children were born In Billinge.

In 1763, when Elizabeth was baptised, John was an Inn Keeper.  Occupations are not shown on the other baptisms.

28 Jun 1840, Catherine married Thomas Mills, both of Windle, at Prescot.

In 1871, Catherine Mils is at Moss Bank.  The census confirms she is 64 and born at Billinge.  (Her brother Thomas died here in 1861).

From their marriage to 1756, John and Elizabeth lived at Newton-le-Willows.  They then moved and had their children baptised at Warrington, later 1770 Great Sankey (for Thomas)

1770, Ann, wife of John Mather of Newton was buried.  Also in 1770, son Henry was born and son Thomas died.

10 Jan 1764, John Mather married Thomasin Hilton at Winwick.  1813, John Mather died and is buried at Winwick.  This may be another (as wife Ann died in 1770).

24 April 1848, William Mather (34) son of John (Farmer, Dead) married Mary Myers (29) of Winstanley (aka Moyers). Joshua Mather was a witness.  This was probably his uncle as William had no brother Joshua.

In 1851, Wiliam and Mary (36 & 31) were farming 18 Acres at Billinge Rant.

1772 - 1831 John Mather 58 58 WARNING: There are two John and Betty families, clearly demobstrated by the births of both Richard and John in 1800, only two months appart.  There are marriages in 1790 and 1796 to Betties Baxter and Houghton.  Most people have the marriages are based on age, but it is more likely this John married Betty Baxter, as Thomas Mather (his oldest brother) was a witness.

In 1804, John was witness to William's marriage to Betty Cowely.  He was therefore likely to be the closest brother.

In 1831,  John died in Billinge, aged 58

In 1871, John (70) and 1881, John (80) was with his daughter's family (Henry and Mary Alice Laithwaite)
