Thomas Mather

Thomas was born in January 1777 in Tottington and his baptism took place on January 20th, 1777 at Over Darwen Lower Chapel.

  WARNING: There is also a Thomas Mather born 9 Nov 1777, son of Abraham and Hannah Mather, baptised 11 Dec 1777 at Ainsworth Unitarian Chapel (Cockey Moor), abode Heights.

Thomas' father was Peter Mather and his mother was Ellen Howarth. His paternal grandparents were Peter Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Cranwhaw; his maternal grandparents were George Howarth and Ellen Greenhalgh. He had six brothers and two sisters, named William, Richard, Thomas, James, Peter, John, Ellen and Margaret. He was the fifth oldest of the nine known children.

Death Notes
- Possibly died in 1852, but the Thomas tahe was alive in Little Hulton in 1851 was born in Worsley, Manchester (near Little Hulton and Farnworth, and South of Bolton)

General Notes
- Thomas from Holcombe is a possible son of Peter and Ellen.
  
  20 Jan 1777, Thomas was baptised at the Lower Chapel, Darwen, Lancashire. His younger brother Thomas was baptised at Walmsley Meeting House (Congregational) in 1774. It is possible that these are the same person (as no death record found and the family changed church).
  
  In 1802-1803, Hannah and Ann were born at Birch-hey, Tottington.

- Thomas and Solomon Mather knew each other.
  - Relationship Notes
    - In 1810, Solomon Mather had Betty baptised at Tottington (maybe), and Thomas had Alice baptised there.
      They are probably related and must have known each other if both at Tottington.
      However, All England Baptism's including St Anns, Turton as Tottington (so may not be the same chapel)
  He was a relative of James Mather.
