Ellen Mather

Ellen was born on December 23rd, 1771 in Sharples and her baptism took place on December 28th, 1771 at Bank Street Unitarian conducted by Reverend Philip Holland.¹²

Ellen's father was Peter Mather and her mother was Ellen Howarth. Her paternal grandparents were Peter Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Cranwhaw; her maternal grandparents were George Howarth and Ellen Greenhalgh. She had seven brothers and a sister, named William, Richard, Thomas, Thomas, James, Peter, John and Margaret. She was the third oldest of the nine known children.

General Notes
- Possibly not of the same family, as baptized at Bank Street Unitarian Protestant and not Walmsley Meeting as for the other children.
  
  Ellen married Richard Booth, a weaver, but there appear to be no children baptised, except possibly Berry 9 Jan 1790 in Blackburn, but would expect others, and from Bolton!
  
  Ellen Booth, pauper, born Heap, aged 79 was living with Samuel and Margaret Kay and family (as a relative) in 1851, but this person appears to have been married to William Booth in 1841, in Bury.
