Peter's father was William Mather and his mother was Margaret Entwistle. His paternal grandparents were Peter Mather and Ellen Howarth. He had two brothers named William and John. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at 4 months old in March 1786 in Turton. His burial was on March 25th, 1786 at Turton Chapel.
