Esther Eddowes was born about 1835 and baptised 17 April 1836. She is my 2x great grandmother.
In 1851, Esther aged 15 born Holt, was with her parents John and Mary and siblings Edmund and John.
On 24 Oct 1853, Esther Eddowes married Richared Brereton at Brymbo, Wrexham. Esther was aged 18 and Richard 19.
Brearton was spelt "Braeton" in 1861 census. Esther and her son John were born at Common Wood, Wrexham (1871 census) by Gresfoird.
Living at 18 George St., Birkenhead in 1871 and 1881, with several boarders including George Eddowes living with them.
On 24 Oug 1878 Esther was in the news. She and her niece Martha Eddowes were summonsed for assault on Ann Baker, Martha's sister.
In 1891, Richard and Esther were at the Shropshire Inn, New Road.
Esther Brereton was listed in the 1906 Kelly's Directory: At 11 Willaston Pl, Birkenhead - Bird-in-Hand P.H., although it was actually 11 Chapel Street.
After Esther's husband, Richard dIed, Esther sold the pub (the Bird in Hand) and bought a house, 56 Church Street.
Esther died in 1917 and left a Will, leaving her house and most of her estate to her daughter Anne Hale (see reference for a transcript of the Will).

Esther's birth was recorded Q3 1868 in Birkenhead, yet on the 1871 census she is shown as 9 months. There are no other nirths recorded, so perhaps 9 months should by 29.
18 May 1896, Thomas and Esther were living at Latimer Street when they married.
In 1901 living with Thomas and family in Birkenhead. Esther was left £100 in the will of her mother Elizabeth Eddowes in 1911.
In 1903 and 1908, Esther Price had two other children that died. Birth records confirm the mother as EDDOWES. They were not shown on the 1911 census (as children that had died).
In 1911, Thomas a dock labourer and Esther (45 & 39) had been married 17 years and had 3 children.

In 1911, William (38) was single, at 61 Dale Street, Birkenhead. He was the manager of the cinema (Cinematography Show) and had his mother Elizabeth (68, Widow), brother John (36, single) and Sister Esthers three children with him.

In 1939, John was single, working in Ellesmere Port, Wirral, a Labourer at the Munition Works. DOB 15 Nov 1879 (the only possible match).

In 1901, Lillian was living with Richard and Esther at the Bird in Hand, Birkenhead.
Each of Lillians children alive in 1911 were left £20 in trust, in the will of here mother Elizabeth Eddowes in 1911.
In Nov 1910, Lillian Eddowes, aged 29 died, killed after a house fire at her home at 4 Wood Street, Birkenhead. The fire was on the 17th Nov, and Lillian died at Birkenhead Burough Hospital two days later.
Lillian and John Francis's four children were sent to St. Vincent's, a Poor Law School in Fulwood, Preston, and were subsequently split up. How sad!

In 1896, Thomas married Esther Edowes.
The 1901 census shows Thomas may have had a son Thomas (aged 12) from an earlier marriage. He was away in the military. William is 3 and Esther 9 months.
In 1903 and 1908, Thomas had two other children that died. Birth records confirm the mother as EDDOWES. They were not shown on the 1911 census (as children that had died).

Mary stayed in Canada, where she worked as a domestic for a farmer North of Ottawa. She eventually married a man from Ottawa and died there in 1959.

In about 1924, William joined the merchant marine and just two years later, in Oct 1926, died from drowning when he fell into the cold waters of the Montreal harbour while hanging below a ship, painting it.

In April 1911, James was 7 months and his father and siblings were living with his uncle Albert and Alice Slater in Birkenhead. His mother had been killed the previous year. His uncle James was Prussian (i.e. German).

Sometime after 1926, William returned to live in England. In 1944, James married Margaret J Mather in Manchester.
James Cross and Margaret married they emigrated back to Ontario, Canada.
