Bessie's father was William Higgins and her mother was Minnie (Annie) Eddowes. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Eddowes and Mary Ann Hughes. She had five brothers and a sister, named Bernard, William, John, Harold, Arthur and Minnie. She was the oldest of the seven children. She died at the age of 87 on August 22nd, 1984 in Wrexham.³
