Eleanor was born in Grismond Castle, Monmouthshire, England.  Eleanor's father was Henry Plantagenet and her mother was Maud de Chaworth.  Her paternal grandparents were Prince Edmund ("Crouchback") and Blanche of Artois; her maternal grandparents were Patrick de Chaworth and Countess Isabel de Beauchamp of Winchester. She had a brother and three sisters, named Henry, "of Lancaster", Joan and Mary.  She died on January 11th, 1372 in Arundel, Sussex, England.  She was buried in Lewes, Sussex, England.

‌Eleanor and "Copped Hat" were married in a religious ceremony in Ditton, England.  They had a son and two daughters, named Richard, Alice and Joan.
