Philip II was born about 1176 in Swabia, Germany.  Philip II's father was Emperor Frederich von Hohenstaufen III of the Holy Roman Empire and his mother was Beatrix de Bourgogne.  His paternal grandparents were Duke Frederik von Hohenstaufen II of Swabia and Princess Judith of Bavaria; his maternal grandfather was Count Renaud de Macon III of Burgundy and his maternal grandmother is Agatha de Alsace. He had a brother and a sister, named Henri and Beatrix.  He died on June 21st, 1208 in Bamberg, Oberfranken, Bavaria.
