Bela was born about 1015 in Esztergom, Komarom-Esztergom, Hungary.  Bela's father was King Vazul ("the Blind") of Hungary and his mother was Primislava of Kiev.  His paternal grandparents were Prince Michael of Hungary and Princess Adelajda ("the White") of Poland; his maternal grandparents were Prince Vladimir ("the Great") I of Kiev and Princess Rogneda von Polotzk. He had a brother named Andras.  He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-brother named Bela.  He died in 1063.
