Elisabeth was born about 1202 in Augsburg, Schwaben, Bavaria.  Elisabeth's father was Emperor Philip II von Hohenstaufen and her mother was Princess Irene Angelica of Byzantium.  Her paternal grandparents were Emperor Frederich von Hohenstaufen III of the Holy Roman Empire and Beatrix de Bourgogne; her maternal grandfather was Emperor Isaac Angelus II and her maternal grandmother is Irene Kalusine Comnena. She had three sisters named Beatrice Elizabeth, Kunigunde and Maria.  She was the oldest of the four children.  She died on November 5th, 1235 in Toro, Zamora, Spain.  She was buried in Sevilla, Sevilla, Spain.


Elisabeth's family with King Fernando ("the Saint") III of Castille & Leon

‌Elisabeth and "the Saint" were married in a religious ceremony on November 30th, 1219 in Burgos, Burgos, Spain.  They had a son named "el Sabio".
