Frederik was born about 1090 in Hohenstaufen, Swaben, Bavaria.  Frederik's father was Duke Frederik von Hohenstaufen I of Swabia and his mother was Princess Agnes of Franconia.  His paternal grandfather was Graaf Frederik van Buren in de Riesgau and his paternal grandmother is Hildegarde van Bar-Mousson of Swabia; his maternal grandparents were Emperor Henry IV of Germany and Bertha of Maurienne. He had a brother and a sister, named Konrad and Kunigunde.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had four half-sisters named Bertha, Agnes, Jhutte and Gertrude.  He died on April 4th, 1147.


Frederik's first family with Princess Judith of Bavaria

‌Frederik and Judith were married in a religious ceremony in 1120 in Bavaria.  They had two sons and a daughter, named Frederich, Friedrich I Barbarossa and Berthe.


Frederik's second family with Countess Agnes of Saarbrucken

They had a son named Konrad.
