Konrad was born in 1093 in Hohenstauffen, Swabia, Germany.  Konrad's father was Duke Frederik von Hohenstaufen I of Swabia and his mother was Princess Agnes of Franconia.  His paternal grandfather was Graaf Frederik van Buren in de Riesgau and his paternal grandmother is Hildegarde van Bar-Mousson of Swabia; his maternal grandparents were Emperor Henry IV of Germany and Bertha of Maurienne. He had a brother and a sister, named Frederik and Kunigunde.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had four half-sisters named Bertha, Agnes, Jhutte and Gertrude.  He died in Bamburg, Germany.

‌Konrad and Gertrud were married in a religious ceremony in 1114.  They had a daughter named Agnes.
