Eleanor was born about 1000 in Normandy, France.  Eleanor's father was Duke Richard ("the Good") de Normandy II and her mother was Princess Judith of Brittany.  Her paternal grandparents were Duke Richard ("the Fearless", "Sans Peur") I of Normandy and Gunnora Haraldsdottir de Crepon; her maternal grandparents were Duke Conan ("the Crooked") de Bretagne I and Ermengarde de Anjou. She had five brothers and three sisters, named William Poincius, Richard, "le jeune", "the Younger", "the Devil", "the Magnificent", William, Alice, Emme and Adelais Judith. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named William and Adela.  She died about 1037.

‌Eleanor and "Fairbeard", "le Barbu" were married in a religious ceremony about 1031.  They had a daughter named Judith.
