Isabella was born on April 5th, 1170 in Valenciennes, Flandres.  Isabella's father was Baldwin V of Hainault and her mother was Margaret of Alsace.  Her paternal grandparents were Count Baldwin IV of Hainault and Alix de Namur; her maternal grandparents were Count Thierry de Lorraine of Flanders and Sybil of Anjou. She had a brother and a sister, named Baldwin and Sibyl.  She was the oldest of the three children.  She died at the age of 19 on March 15th, 1190 in Paris, Isle De France.  She was buried in Notre Dame de Paris, Paris, Isle De France.

‌Isabella and Philip Augustus were married in a religious ceremony on April 28th, 1180 in Bapaume, Pas-de-Calais, France.  They had a son named "the Lion".
