Gertrude was born about 1028 in Schweinfurt, Unterfranken, Bavaria.  Gertrude's father was Duke Bernhard von Saxony II and her mother was Elika von Schweinfurt.  Her paternal grandparents were Bernard (Benno) Billung I and Hildegarde von Stade; her maternal grandfather was Margrave Henry von Schweinfurt and her maternal grandmother is Gerberge von Henneberg. She had a brother and a sister, named Ordulph and Gertrud Billunger.  She was the second oldest of the three children. She had a half-sister named Othelhildis.  She died on August 4th, 1113.


Gertrude's first family with Count Floris I of Holland

‌Gertrude and Floris were married in a religious ceremony in 1048.  They had a son and two daughters, named Dirk, Bertha and Adele Chretienne.


Gertrude's second family with Robert ("de Fries") I of Flanders

They had a daughter named Gertrude.
