In 1861, John is an employer of 9 men and a boy ~1766 Richard Smith Richard Smith was from Dean and son Thomas died in Howrich and Richard was born Westhoughton.

However Thomas was born in Sharples. 1797 - 1868 Thomas Smith 71 71 In 1822, Thomas "Howarth" Smith married Alice Swarbrich at Blackburn.

In 1841, Thomas and Alice (40 & 35) were at Back Shaw Street, East Bolton with sons John (14) and Robert (9). Robert and Fanny Smith (both 50, possible brother) were also there.

In 1851, Thomas and Alice Smith (54 and 55) were living in Commission Street, West Bolton with son Robert (19)

In 1861, Thomas and Alice (63 & 65) were at 85 Back Mason Street, West Bolton, Thomas a Cotton Hand Loom Weaver. 1799 - 1870 Richard Smith 71 71 11 Sep 1825, Richard, weaver and bachelor may have married Mary Yates at Bury.

In 1841, Richard, labourer, & Mary (40 & 35) were at Hanover Square, East Bolton with John (15), Margaret (10), Ann (8) and Esther (2).

In 1851, Richard and Mary (48 & 45) were at 33 Gas Street with Margaret (20), Ann (18), Esther (11), and Jane (4).  Richard was born in "Huddeisea" (probably should be Hoddlesden in Darwen). Jane was dumb.  James Horton (30, Wheelwright) was visiting.

Richard may have had a son Thomas, a labourer from Sharples who married Mary Ann Tildsley on 27 Dec 1841 1790 - 1794 Thomas Smith 4 4 1796 - 1863 Alice Taylor 67 67 In 1841, Thomas (cotton weaver) and Alice Smith (40 & 35) were at Back Shaw Street, East Bolton with sons John (14) and Robert (9).  Robert (a labourer) and Fanny Smith (both 50) were also present.  Robert Smith is likely to be Thomas’s brother.  Robert Smith and Fanny Bate married at Manchester 19 Aug 1823.
In 1851, Thomas (cotton weaver) and Alice (54 & 55) were living at 40 Commission Street, West Bolton with son Robert (19) a brick layer.

In 1861, Thomas and Alice (63 & 65) were at 85 Back Mason Street, with Alice’s Brother John Taylor (69) living with them.  Thomas was still a Cotton Handloom Weaver and Alice a Washerwoman.

Alice died in 1863 aged 67, and Thomas died in 1868, aged 71.  They are buried at Emmanuel Churchyard, Bolton.
 1832 Robert Smith 1851, Robert (19) was a brick layer in Commission Street, West Bolton

2 Jan 1854, Robert Smith, Brick Layer, son of Thomas Smith a weaver married Ann Crompton, spinjster, daughter of George Crompton, an Engineer.

1861, Robert (27) was a brick layer at 22 Stanley St, West Bolton with wife Nancy (28), Thomas (7) and Mary Ann (1y)

In 1871, Robert and Nancy (36 & 34) werre lodgers at 8 Flash Street with Mary Ann (11), John (7), Margaret Jane (5) and William (2). 1827 John Smith in 1851, John and Elizabeth (24 & 22) were in East Bolton.  John was a Brick Layer employing 6 men.

In 1861, John and Elizabeth (34 & 32) had one son Frederick (aged 2) with them. John was a Master Bricklayer (employer).

In 1871 John and Elizabeth (44 & 43) had Margaret, Thomas and Frederick (19, 17, 13). John was now a Building Surveyer living in Little Bolton. Elizabeth was a Draper.

In 1901, John and Elizabeth (73 & 72), both born Bolton, were retired (i.e. living at own expence) at Birkdale. Elizabeth M Kirkham (22, g-dau, Artist) was also present. 1829 Elizabeth Baxter 1858 Frederick Smith 1851 Margaret Baxter Smith Margaret "B" Smith on 1851 birth registration, mother's maiden name "Baxter". 1853 Thomas Edmund Smith 1766 - 1853 Susan Mather 87 87 It is likely Susan and Susannah Mather are the same parson and was baptised twice (but why wasnt Isaac?). This is because there is no death record for the Susanna baptised 1763, and Susan was also knows as Susanna when her children were baptised (Smith).

Susan Mather married Richard Smith of Deane on 7 Oct 1787.  She was Susan when Thomas baptised (1797), but then Susannah for Richard (1799).

In 1841, Susan Nutter, aged 70, was at Tottington Lower End.  Is this her?

There is also a burial record for Susan Mather at Turton, 27 Mar 1853, aged 83, which could be her if she hadn't married.  The death record is for a Susan Nutter, aged 83, so Mather could be her maiden name.  Susan Nutter was witness to the 1816 marriage of William Mather and Catherine Pilkington. However, this may be Sussanah Greenhalgh who married William Nutter in 1791.
