Ellis Ratcliffe is a Farmer from Hainworth. His father is John Ratcliffe, also a Farmer.
Ellis married Mary Smith i31 May 1841, so wan not with his family for the June census. Ellis Ratcliffe, a Cattle Jobber, and Mary (both 25) we staying at Market Place, Thirsk.
After Mary died, Ellis a widower, married Ann in 1844, but by 1851 he was back with parents shown as unmarried, and with brother William Widow with son William.
In 1844 he was a farmer at Marlow Hall. The Leeds Intelligencer reported his second marriage on Saturday 23 Nov 1844 thus: "Tuesday last, at the parish church, Bingley, by the Rev. J. Cheadle, Vicar, Mr Ellis Ratcliffe, of Marlow Hall, farmer and grazier, to Ann, daughter of Mr Thomas Rhodes, of Long-lee, near Keighley."
By 1871, Ellis had moved to live in Headingley, and had four sons Thomas (19), John (17), Rhodes (9) and James (7).
