Isaac Skirrow Smith

Isaac was born on June 12th, 1803 in Cottingley and his baptism took place on August 29th, 1803 at All Saints (Bingley).¹²

  Born "Bing Cottingley" according to 1861 census. May imply Cottingley, part of the parish of Bingley (unless there is an abode called "Bing"). However, the 1851 census shows Skirrow is from Cottingley and Sarah from Bingley.

Isaac's father was John Smith and his mother was Hannah Bennett. His paternal grandparents were Isaac Smith and Elizabeth Skirrow. He had three brothers named John, William and Thomas. He was the oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 64 on August 30th, 1867 in Cottingley. His burial was on September 3rd, 1867 at All Saints (Bingley).³⁴

  The Will with a Codicil of Isaac Skirrow Smith late of Cottingley in the Parish of Bingley in the county of YORK, Farmer deceased who died 30 August 1867 at Cottingley aforesaid was proved at Wakfield by the oaths of Thomas Baines of Cottingley aforesaid Stuff Manufacturer and John Stephenson of Lingbon Wilsden in the county aforesaid Innkeeper the Executors.

  There appears to be no Isaac Smiths on the 1841 census (Cottingley = Bingley district 5)
  
  In 1851 Isaac had a large farm of 219 acres, employing two servants: Elizabeth Hudson and Thomas Parker. By 1851 he had "House, Land and Cottages".
  
  In 1861 Isaak Skirrow Smith (58) was farming just 3 acres, and was still with Sarah (62).
