Dorothy, known as Joan, was born on January 20th, 1922 in Tranmere and her baptism took place on March 25th, 1922 at St. Paul's (Tranmere) conducted by Vicar Mason Pooley.1 2  Joan's father was Harry (Harold) Dittmer and her mother was Elsie Brereton.  Her paternal grandparents were Johann (Henry) Peter Heinrich Dittmer and Friedericke (Freda) Dorothee Westphal; her maternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and Lydia Timmis. She had two brothers named Harry and Cliff.  She was the second oldest of the three children.  She died from cancer, Pancratic Cancer, at the age of 87 on August 25th, 2009 in Arrow Park Hospital.  The funeral took place on September 4th, 2009 at the Landican Cemetery and was arranged by Charles Stephens, 215 Bebington Road, Rock Ferry.  Her cremation was on September 4th, 2009 at the Landican Cemetery.3 1 3
