Robert's father was Thomas Hopley and his mother was Catherine Lewis. His paternal grandparents were William Hopley and Anne Williams. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Thomas, James, Samuel, Peter, Charles, Anne, Mary and Elizabeth. He was the eighth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 83 in January 1847 in Shocklach. His burial was on January 26th, 1847 in Shocklach.²²

- Thomas (his father) left Robert (butcher) of Shocklach Oviat £50 in his will of 1798, but most other children only 1s.
  
  Roberts wife Margaret died in 1814 when Robert was about 50. They were living at Worthenbury. He does not appear to have remarried.
  
  James (brother) left him £120 when he died in 1842.
  
  I cant find a Will for Robert Hopley, although most of his brothers seem to mave made one.
