William was born in 1753 in Shocklach and his christening took place there on January 6th, 1754.1  William's father was Thomas Hopley and his mother was Catherine Lewis.  His paternal grandparents were William Hopley and Anne Williams. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, James, Robert, Samuel, Peter, Charles, Anne, Mary and Elizabeth.  He was the third oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 87 in April 1840 in Shocklach.  He was buried on April 7th, 1840 in Shocklach.2 2
