Peter's father was Thomas Hopley and his mother was Catherine Lewis.  His paternal grandparents were William Hopley and Anne Williams. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Thomas, James, Robert, Samuel, Charles, Anne, Mary and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 31 on October 10th, 1798 in Salford.  He was buried on October 12th, 1798 in Salford.²
