Samuel was born in August 1765 in Shocklach and his christening took place there on September 8th, 1765.1  Samuel's father was Thomas Hopley and his mother was Catherine Lewis.  His paternal grandparents were William Hopley and Anne Williams. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Thomas, James, Robert, Peter, Charles, Anne, Mary and Elizabeth.  He was the third youngest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 78 in June 1844 in Shocklach.  He was buried on June 18th, 1844 in Shocklach.1

‌Samuel and Sarah were married in a religious ceremony on August 8th, 1815 in Shocklach witnessed by James Hopley & Jane Davies.3   There are no children.
